WB8 Terminal List rev.0 7/8/01 Screw terminals are numbered from left to right facing the terminal block. I.E. the 5V converter will be on the left and the electrolytic capacitor will be on the right. Odd numbers are on the upper row, even on the lower. Term Name/Function Notes 1 GND EXT. A brief explanation of how to connect averything up follows. LIMIT SWITCHES (terminals 1-10) Power for the limit and E-stop circuits is supplied by a Burr-Brown DCP01B isolated converter and are thus isolated from the computer. Simply connect terminals 1 and 2 to the normally closed contacts of the X limit switch, 2 and 3 for Y, etc. A normally closed switch is safer in that the limit will trip if the wire breaks. AMP STATUS (terminals 11,12) Term 11 is the collector and terminal 12 is the emitter of the output transistor in an optoisolator. This output will sink up to 20ma. You will need an external supply voltage of 5 to 25 volts DC. AMP ENABLE (13), DISABLE (14) These do as indicated when shorted to terminal 15, the external ground. Works only with G320/340 servo amps. ENCODER MINUS (16) Another external ground, this one goes to pin 6 of a G320/340. Makes the 5V Burr-Brown converter common with the G320/340 5V supply. AMP STATUS (17-20) To pin 5 of the G320/340 servo amp. Allows WB8 to sense and control amplifier state. STEP/DIRECTION OUTPUTS (21-28) These are buffered data lines but are NOT optoisolated. WB8 is configured for +5V common. These lines pull the S/D pins of the drive to ground. COMPUTER +5V (29-32) These are the +5V returns for the S/D lines. They are common to the computer's +5V only if you use that source to power the board. CONTROL OUTPUTS (35-42) These are the collector/emitter pairs from four optoisolators. As with the amp status lines, they can sink up to 20ma each. You will need an external supply voltage of 5 to 25 volts DC. SUPPLY VOLTAGE A 4 pin array is drilled at the left side of the board, next to the electrolytic capacitor, for a computer power supply receptacle. The holes are too small in the present batch of boards and must be drilled out if you plan to use the receptacle. A regulated 5V wallwart is preferred and can be purchased from Jameco for about $7 as part number 164101. A two pin screw terminal is provided for this purpose. DIODES Eight 914 signal diodes are used for the amp sensing circuit (G320/340 only). Solder the supplied 16 pin header into the board and then solder the diodes to it.
