Very well stated. Used PC's and new PC components are a huge bargain. A
distributed system design utilizing multiple PC's can be very powerful and
reliable.
I am finishing up a distributed system for discrete semiconductor testing.
Linux is used to control each test set, while Windows administers the test data
and test procedures. Windows requires big hardware while the Linux tester is
bare bones allowing for precise timing and control.
