Hi,
I forgot to mention that the metric SI system we use here has a 60 degree
thread form while the old Whitworth threads are 55 degree. I have been
repairing machine tools for over twenty-five years and have also come across
a lot of bastard(this is not a swear-word when used in this context)
threads. I never got the hang of the numbering system for threads or drill
bits and can't get my head around what it is based on.
the preferred thread list. For example 8x1.25mm is the preferred size but
most bolts in a Japanese motorcycle that are 8mm are 1.00mm pitch and I have
often seen bolts at 0.75 pitch. Not to forget that the thread could be
courser.
Regards,
Terry

> Its always a 14x2 or 8x1.25 ?The full notation would only usually be used if the thread size was not on
the preferred thread list. For example 8x1.25mm is the preferred size but
