I've been playing with desknc, which is a full stepper driver (step+dir)
etc, but does OK toolpath display testing in a graphical window. I probably
wont buy it for actually driving my machine, as the stepper outputs are not
that constant, due to graphical overhead I think. (It's dos based). On my
retro-fitted lathe I can hear the steppers change pitch when they are meant
to be moving at a constant speed.
Anyway, the graphical bit is quite handy.
Also Kellycam (windows based) is quite good, and it has much prettier
graphics, and dosn't need registration it's totally free, but again I'd not
use it to drive a "real" machine due to "lumpy" stepper output.
Both of those are 2D, dunno if you're looking for 3D or not...
Cheers, Chris.
