Thanks very much for several insightful comments re making ballnuts
in the comfort of one's own home.
Just two more questions re the buy-vs-make option.
1) Where are people finding such inexpensive ballnuts? My preliminary
research indicates about $600 for a pair of flanged preloaded 1-1/4
x .200 ballnuts--maybe I'm just looking in all the wrong places.
Wouldn't be the first time.
2) Secondly, perhaps 1-1/4 screws aren't required. That's the
diameter of the Toolmaster's acme stockers, so I just assumed that
would be the best choice for ballscrews. Will the better mechanical
efficiency of ballscrews allow downrating to 1"? Is such downsizing
a standard practice when retrofitting ballscrews?
Thanks.
