Hi all,

I just posted that NASA link(for Dn). Stewart motors. Then read
Annies response re: smart motors. Mariss and my concerns re: heat.
And wondered whether Mariss was gonna comment on my question of
putting the control and driver together? And been spending some time
on the egroups hobbicast(metalcasting) list.

And I thought:

What about a "space shuttle" tile to constrain the heat generated?
Then remembered that was an ablative(wears away) process.

How about Kaowool? Or refractory? Why not include a small fan (cpu
cooler,for ex.)
Aerogel!("frozen" smoke, phenomenal insulative qualities)...

What if we took this All-in-one pkg. and did a DIY on it !?! It
doesn't HAVE to be so small as the SMART motors... But an "integrated
package... Hmmm...

Gecko drives are certainly small enough... (Mariss is prob'ly cussin'
at me now!)

JonE's fully independant hardware based timing...

Box mounts with a strap to the side of the motor... Rotary encoder.
Short wires between component parts...

Hardware handled. Control issues...

Controller AT the motor... Integrated box... ???

Cascade-able axes... THIS is the part of the smart motors(or was it
the Camsoft site?) that gets me thinkin'. Simple step(or was it
PICservo ?) claims this also...

Could we pull this off... Would it be worth it...?

P.S. Nick Goss of the Ill-fated U.S. Cyberlabs did some of this with
steppers a few years back. Put a driver on the rear of the motor and
encapsulated it. called it a Cymotor. No "outboard" brains, tho.
