Dear Andrew,
On some commercial wood routers, they use a stationary ball screw and turn
the ball nut. The motor and belt drive to the nut travel on the gantry along
with the nut. I've seen Thermwood Corps. routers with this set up. Might be a
bit tough to design and construct but I have seen it done...
