Bob:
There are several stepper driver designs floating around on the net,
covering a fair range of applications: uni-polar, bi-polar, chopper,
micro-stepping, etc. Many are available with downloadable pcb
artwork, and some may be purchased as kits.
Just to get you started: http://www.mendonet.com/cnclinks/
Email me off-list for more links if you need them.
If your time is worth anything, you'd be hard pressed to find a more
cost effective solution than the $149 Gecko 2xx line.
Regards,
Ron
