Hi,
Ok, as promised, here's the results of my tests.
The short answer is there is no significant difference which end of
the leadscrew the encoder is on.
I ran the test as a 2X2 matrix:
1) Use motor encoder, load at the motor end
2) Use motor encoder, load at the far end
3) Use far end encoder, load at the motor end
4) Use far end encoder, load at the far end
The leadscrew simply did not twist enough to make any difference.
Pulsed torque 275 oz-in, 3/8" leadscrew, 30" travel.
The test took 10 hours to setup and run. With that amount of time
invested, I'm willing to take another couple of hours to transcribe
my lab notes into a formal methodology used for the test and post
them in a couple of days to the "Files" section if anyone is
interested.
I feel it is too lengthy and narrow of a scope to post it as a
message here.
