Hi,
It just occurred to me that there may be some of you who could benefit from
another 'trick' I do with tap-generated 'worms'. I needed to replace some
knurled thumbscrews on a scientific instrument a while ago and, in looking
at them closely, I realised that the lines knurled onto the rounded edge of
the brass top of the screw were not quite parallel to the screw part. Aha,
thought I, I've made something like the reverse of that before. So I made a
steel 'wormwheel' using a small tap - hardened and tempered it, and used it
as a knurling wheel. The finished result was almost identical to the
remaining original screws.
