100 oz/in for a Smithy? That's more the size for a Sherline. I can't
say how big you need, but think 300? Also, consider more voltage. Are
you limited to 12V? The 400 steps you can get by half-stepping.

Do you have a URL for Hans Wedermeyer's boards?
