I learned to TIG weld at NASA Ames Research Center, on a high school
work exp. program. Frank, a curmudgeon if there ever was one, and one
of the very best welders I ever saw, showed me where the scrap sheet
metal was, how to shear strips, turn on the welder, and adjust heat.
He ran a 2" bead and said "practice". For the next several weeks most
questions were answered with "practice".
It's the magic key to becoming a good welder, there is no substitute.
