Reading Joe's post concerning a salvage trip got reminded me of a local
trip that I made a few weeks ago. I sent an email to a ebay seller
concerning a five phase stepper drive. His location was about a 15-20
minute drive from here. He called me and gave me the address. I drove up
and he showed me around. A huge warehouse full of servo motors and
robots and linear tables. I am looking at a robot that has a Compumotor
stepper with an encoder. I mention that I have larger versions of the
same motor with encoders that I have mounted to my Bridgeport. He asked
me where I purchased them . I gave him the name of the company in
California. We are located in south Florida. He asked me to look at the
connectors that would have hooked up another(missing) stepper motor at
the base of the robot . Yep, you guessed it. I have the nema42 motors
that came off of his robots mounted on my machine. Four of them. I just
hope they didn't sell them to me after he purchased the robots. He
didn't seem that upset, since he gave me a good price on a brand new 5
phase driver. But I just had to consider the chances of the robots and
motors winding up so close after being shipped all of the way from
California.
