BDI EMC installs

Hi Folks,

Just revisiting an old thread here, but....
I've been mulling over the basic framework of a minimal Linux Distro with EMC
included - The install expands to around 250 Meg - But no bells or whistles.
I had been working on using RedHat as the basis of the Distro, it is a fairly
simple task to include extra programs. But, and I mean BUT, RH insists on
rewriting the partition table on my second IDE drive - Which is not where I'm
doing the install. I have a few other gripes with it, sooo

Plan B is to do a few basic scripts without any hardware probing, and just
install a cut-down rc.d script along with a 'generic' Xconfig file. The
trouble with this plan is it will only work for Pentium machines with IDE
drives - No scsi or sound cards supported. Fine tuning network cards,
Xwindows, and setting up modems/internet will all have to be done manually.
But the realtime patches to the kernel along with the emc compile will
allready be done.
The basic assumption here, is that no other operating systems are set up on
the same machine and Linux will be the sole OS.

Is there still a demand ?
Does anyone have additional suggestions to make ? (Nomex suit and water bucket
ready)
Any UK beta testers interested ?

Paul.
