Uk Based newbie requires pointers

Hi all

Found out about EMC a while ago , but time has not allowed me to delve
too deep. I do have a working RH distro but have not succesfully
patched in the RT Kernel yet. I have tried though!

I do have a suitable machine for experiments though. I have two Emco
compact 5 CNC Lathes. One a good late model and an early one with scrap
electronics which I would like to retrofit with some other control.

I see mainly mills mentioned here, can the EMC s/w be used for lathes?

Which servo and or Stepper drives are recommended for EMC. Those that
now the C5 will know they are equipped with steppers but I might be
prepared to play with servo motors.

I would particularly like to hear from anyone n the UK who has
successfully got EMC up and running.
