Richard,
4 programs I have tried, 2 have been mentioned. BMP2DIN (WIN)and SCAN2CNC (DOS)are 2 others. TOPO appears to be he most workable for me though I have cut with the others.Look at the help on Cannys edge detection for quick results.I take my DXF files into MGX Draw, align them, save the DXF convert with KCAM and cut. There is another program called Terrain Forge that is used for VR landscape building that will export 3D DXF files. If someone can do a test convert for me I would like to see what it comes out like. Mapscan did not work well for me but I didn't spend a lot of time with it either. BMP2DIN is time consuming unless you edit the file for unneeded moves past the last cut. SCAN2CNC has only one level of Z so far but it may be the way I dithered the image before printing. With it you print to a file using an FX86 driver and then convert that file, so the print settings have alot to do with the output I am writing a small text on my experiences and will post or email it if!
there is a demand for it. These are the best for a cheap way to go, figuring out the best settings can be time suckers.
