Hello Folks;
There is something interesting going on.
I just come from a small conference.
The tecnical institute of Monterey in Mexico is develloping a
universal CNC on PC-basis for retrofit of conventional machines.
The concept (an open structure) sounds realy interesting and prices
aparently too.
(the local goverment might give in the initial phase a subvention of
60%)
The base is a PC with operative system QNX, (soon they want to
switch to Linux.)
All the inteligent part of tasks is packed in the software and the
Interfaces are simply stupid standard
interfaces and amplifiers.
The software package they work on starts from actuall dimentioning
(mecanical to electronics);
interface and machine configuration, cad/cam and work prepare (setup
sheets etc.)
Their target groop are small machine shops in developing countries.
They are still on half of their way, (get some little help from the
goverment),
but they need most of all tecnical support.
Possibly soon we will get to hear from Miguel Ramirez
Good Luck
