Yep, the chuck and stepper are about the same size. Talk about
scaling!
Anyway, here are the specs on the stepper:
p/n MD091-FD-8109 (Superior Electric)
150 oz hold
1.7V 4.7A (I run at about 4 IIRC)
34 frame
2.6:1 gear reduction to cross slide
The brass fitting on the gearbox is for oil. The motor came from Dan
Mauch.
Depending on the alloy, I feed about 0.0015 to 0.001 per rev when
cutting off steel. At this point, spindle horsepower is the
constraint, but it's handled anything I can throw at it so far. This
week I need to make a bunch of plastic spacers for an electronic
gizmo so it'll get a nice easy workout.
