Well said Mo, he certainly got me out of the pits several times and I
wouldn't now be confidently playing with a system I am happy with were
it not for his hepl.

Just for the record, I just did my first reconfig on the system since
getting EMC working. I wanted sound support which Tim's script doesn't
have and I can now report that it went like a dream. Starting at the
'make xconfig', the whole thing took only about 20 minutes and, if I
choose, I can now play CDs while EMC trots along through its work. (I
tested this just to see if the EMC did take precedence over other
programmes but, in reality, it is impossibe to decide as both EMC and
the CD player seemed to work normally). So, the moral is, don't be
afraid to reconfigure if you want changed options - it won't affect
RTlinux or EMC. I have also discovered how to access the Windows files
on the hard drive (mkdir /windows , mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /windows)
and so I can now boot up the machine in Windows, draw a part in a CAD
programme, convert it to G-code, then reboot in linux and copy the file
directly into EMC - it just gets better and better!
