in the latest issue of Machinist Workshop, August 1999 there is an article on
Freln lined linear bearings.
"An expanded series of 148 Frelon-lined linear bearings from Quality Bearings
& Componets can tolerate up to 1,500 psi over the portion of the bearing that
is carrying the load. These Frelon-lined bearings anodized aluminum bearings
carry four to eight times the load of ball bearings. A 1/2" ID Frelon
bearing will carry as much load as a 1" ball bearing. Long service life for
these self lubricating bearings is another major benifit. Although wear
rates are affected by surface finish, shaft hardness, length of travel,
contamination and lubercation, these bearings last on adverage four to eight
times longer than ball bearings.
They are stocked in inch and metric sizes to fit shafts that range from 3/16"
to 4" (5mm to 80mm) diameter. Open and closed models with both precicion and
standard tolerances are available.
Detailed technical specifications are contained in Bulletin B605 avaliable
upon request from Quality Bearings & Componets, 125 Railroad Ave, Garden City
Park, NY 11040-5016, phone (888) 276-4787, faz (800) 737-7436, web

i chose to copy the whole Metal News clip to give everybody the same info,
some don't have computers and others might not take the "Machinist Workshop"
by Village Press.
