Roger,

I used the McMaster Carr ball screws on my Shoptask 3 in 1 machine on the X
and Y axis. If you go to http://www.ktmarketing.com/ballscrew.html you will
see my experience in working with the screw stock and it may give you some
ideas. There is a link on the bottom of the page that takes you to a page of
pictures of my X axis and a close up of the ends and the ballnut and
adapter. I am not using 2 nuts per axis, so I have about .005 backlash, but
EMC seems to compensate for it quite well.

Here is an idea for a low cost end bearing

Attachment to machine
Then thread the end to allow you to adjust the preload on the thrust
bearings. Needle thrust bearings are about US$3.50 for the set of cage and
thrust washers from MSC.
