Dan,
Use Brasso! Also use a fresh terry cloth pad and use as little
polish as necccessary to start. The grit on the pad will break down
to finer particles as you go. Keep turning/fluffing the pad.
eventually you will see (!) a shine. I have made lamp reflectors,
about to start one now, and that's all I use.
