Distributed Numeric Control. This is from the days when real computers
cost $50,000 to $250,000 and up, and when NC machines may have had
no actual computer in them, or at least a very low-powered one. A central
computer held the part programs, and loaded them as needed. Not all
DNC systems used drip-feed, it depended on the internal memory of the
CNC system.
