I have just ordered a SimpleStep board. I expect to write a driver for
my new CPNC program for it (as well as for the board Steve is doing) I
had a long talk with a guy at SimpleStep (very helpfull) They are now
looking at offering their logic board separate from the drivers- that
would make it another candidate for the smart black box- damn, we go
from none to a bunch all at once! He guessed it would sell for about
$150.

Their board is serial port, and only has one commnad of buffer. He
described a lot of real world applications using it and claims the speed
is fine.

He mentioned one medical company with a bunch (100?) Sherline lathes
fitted out as CNC glass blowing lathes to make some medical device.

They do not do circular interp on the board. They also dont really do
linear- you have to set the speed values for each axis to cause them to
all get to the end of the move at the same time. The worst error will be
a couple CPU clock cycles- in the 1 microsecond range.

I have printed the API draft for the UMCI and will take it with me on a
weeks vacation- wont be reading e-mail for a week, but will do some
programming.
