The HF start on the cutting should do only that. That is that it will only
START the cut. The HF transmits better through the air and strike el arc
easier. You've probably heard about Lift Arc that's been used to totally
eliminate HF radio interference when welding round computers and stuff that
can't be moved. The electrode is tapped on the work and then drawn back and
as it is the current rises until it's ready to weld. I don't have any
hands-on experience with a plasma cutter and CNC cutting but I would make an
educated guess and say it won't affect it at all. You won't be cutting
micrometer accurate pieces will you? The steppers, if interfered with, will
only judder when the arc is struck and the HF in use. The cutter then dwells
for a second or a half to 'preheat' before moving. Often a cut is started
off the shape to prevent you getting a bump in the cut out where the arc was
started and burnt a little more away, it's called the lead in. HF isn't used
for the entire process like in HF AC TIG. I envy your plans! I have no idea
why because I can't think of any reason why I'd need a cnc cutter but I feel
compelled to transformer my oxy/acetylene rig to a space aged oxy/acety rig
so I can make space aged oxy/acety junk. : ) I saw a guy who built a
plasma table then built a tractor with it.... now there's something to show
the neighbours!
