I mounted linear encoder on the back of the lathe bed with the push rod
being driven by the carriage. It is out of the way and was easy to install.
I used a couple existing hole for the cross slide cover to mount a bracket
that hold the encoder drive rod.
I used a linear encoder on the cross slide as well. It was mounted above the
carriage where it would not interfer with the handles, the chuck or the
travel of the carriage.
