Using Cable

Hi, well after working for a printing co. for 15 years, i know precision cable works well and is somewhat self cleaning. They used hydraulic crimped end pieces, pulleys were matched for size on a comparator, after the wires were made to length they were hung with dead weight for a few days the weight being 3/4 of maximum load for the cable. then those cables were matched on a jig for length...eg. 100 lb. cable was hung with 75 lb. weight for 72 hours or more. bearings in the pulleys almost always needle bearings,shafts being hardened and ground in pairs then split in 1/2. I wish i could remember what they used for a pre-load on the wire at install. but any co. selling precision cable should be able to tell you. The machines this system is on hold tenths precision for years without alignment...I've given out a trade secret but its more than 13 years since i worked there(my secret contract expired 3 years ago!) cul Brian f.
