Editing tcl's

I've had this problem a couple of times.
I edited line # 700 of the Tkemc tcl. I put a # in front of the line to remark it out.
Tkemc would not load at all.
I deleted the # and put the line back to what it was originally.
Tkemc would not load at all.
I copied the Tkemc from another folder to the proper folder and over wrote the one I played with.
Tkemc loaded properly.
What did I do wrong?
I use the default text editor on the right mouse button, is there something better?
