Hi Group,
A few days ago somebody asked about TURBOCAD. I have used
the FREE version of TC for over six months, without any big
problems! I downloaded it and it installed 1-2-3.
A week ago I stopped at Staples to buy a printer cartridge.
While I was waiting for someone to open the case holding the printer
cartridges. I spotted TURBOCAD 7.0 for $29.95. The cartridge was
$32 with tax. At this point I realized how good a bargain TURBOCAD
really is. I bought it and took it home.
For some reason TC would not unpack and install on my
computer. The box said I needed 64meg of RAM, I only had 32. I
thought it was funny the FREE version worked fine, but the store
bought version choked. I added more memory and still nothing. I
even deleted the FREE version of TURBOCAD hoping that was stopping
the new installation. I ended up moving the BIN files from the
CD to my hard drive. When I clicked on one of the files other than
SETUP, TURBOCAD started installing. I found that the install
program of my WINDOWS 95b would not handle the install. The box says
WINDOWS 95! On the website it says WINDOWS 95 with a service pack. I
have never seen this problem before. I tried TURBOCAD on one of my
WINDOWS 98 computers and it went right in.
I found Version 7 is better than the FREE version, within the
first few minutes. The FREE version draws the tool path as a long
string, clicking it at each turn. Version 7 lets you draw the path as
separate lines that are hooked together. With the FREE version
drawing seperate lines makes a GCode that hads an up and down movement
of the Z axis for each line junction.
Tonight I tried the Training module. Everytime I clicked on
something the program called my Paint Program. I traced the problem
to the fact I did not let the program install Internet Explorer.
IE has a SCM module that will run the Videos. I went instead with
A program that would run the files from the desktop.
For $30 the training section alone is worth it! But watch out
TURBOCAD wants to install IE on your computer. An other company that
is in bed with Uncle Bill! I just love CDs that add IE or Real Audio
to your computer.
