The servo system requires encoders for feed back. The comparison between the
ordered desination and the actual location is taken care of in the
electronics.
The servo system works fine with desknc, maxnc, dancam and other step and
direction software.

[Evidently you are using some special hardware. I just asked, and while
they're working on it, MaxNC isn't recommending their software to run
servos. Apparently until they fix something, the machine booting in Windows
fries the motors. But I'll keep you posted with their progress in resolving
this problem.]

It works good on my .000 backlash chinese knee mill. On
my mill drill it also works fine now trhat I added ballscrews to the X and Y
axis. The z axis has .02 backlash. thus at 24,000 counts to the inch
1/24000=.000041667 " per count there for .02/.000041677=479 step in backlash
that I would have to add in the max pr file. It will only go to ~256. So
that has forced me to fix the damn quill problem.
I called otto about 4 times on the file size. On the 4 axis version he said
it could not be fixed. I don't need the three axis version.

[I just talked to Otto (president of MaxNC) about this, and he says the
unlimited filesize program for running all 4 axes is there, in the current
DLX version of the software. Apparently, you need to choose "DNC" as a menu
item. This turns off tool radius compensation, but everything else is
supposed to work, with a "lookback" routine reading the file off the
harddrive instead of trying to store it all in memory. If you could try
this and let us know how it works, I'd appreciate it. Apparently I have a
transitional version of the software which bundled this function into the
MaxL program (and it seemed to work fine), but it is a bit different now.]
