EDM power supply / finish quality

I built a basic R-C (resistor capacitor) EDM supply based on the HSM
article. It works but it produces a rather rough surface finish.
My main concern is finish quality with absolutly no concern for
speed. From what I can read this indicates that one should use a low
power, high switching speed type of supply. A mosfet based system
seems to be the best way to go.
It does not seem that a capacitor is necessary in this type of
circuit, just a resistor to limit power and a mosfet (and associated
driving circuitry). Does anybody have any thoughts/experience in
this area?
BTW, I am using a low viscosity hydrocarbon dielectric, 72V power
supply, and moderate pressure flushing.
