just a 'heads-up' from someone who migrated from windows to linux two years
ago without any prior unix experience... the whole concept of 'ownership'
and permissions can really throw you for a loop in linux. logging in as
root is the simplest way around it, but it can cause some real problems...
there are no 'safeties' in root, you can complelety and accidentally HOSE
your system if you were to mistype a command (or not understand what a
command does---it's all pretty cryptic)
i found alot of help from the 'man' files... open a terminal (kde has a
terminal bottun on the task bar... looks like a black computer screen or
something)
then type in
man chmod
you can get a manual for any command you may need (with the man
command)---hopefully that should help with the learning curve---Dave L.
