Re: need Multiphase Motor driver circuit

Hi Peter,

If your motor is wired 'Y' (with 5 legs), then use a simple unipolar
circuit, only add a 5th "phase" to the circuit. MaxNC (and others) do
4-phase, SO, if you wanted three motors (3*5=15), use 4 single-motor
driver circuits (4*4=16), to get the required number of "phases"
(SOFTWARE driven). Trouble is, there is no simple (cheap) software to
drive it!!!

I suppose a PIC or PAL (or discrete counter I.C.'s) could be used to
generate the 5-phase sequence, in which case you could feed it step/dir
(and the software wouldn't care).

At on time, I was asking about the "driving sequences" for these motors,
and had thought about writing code to be able to drive one. BUT, didn't
have a motor anyway!

The other alternative is an EXPENSIVE 5-phase Vextra (or whoever)
driver.
