VFD's, flux vector type..

Anyone with hands-on experience with flux vector VFD's? I notice
some attractive prices for Mitsubishi units on Ebay.

I want to put one on my CNC lathe's spindle motor to allow spindle
indexing (the controller supports indexing).

Some of my questions are:

will these type VFD's run on single phase input with de-rating
(dealers have been unable to answer this question)?

what about running with a non-inverter duty motor?

any special concerns with the motor encoder for this type application?
