You really should size the motor by torque, but assuming you are
talking about comparable units the smaller diameter NEMA 34 would I
think have less rotor inertia. This might mean better performance at
high accelerations.

I think you can find mounting dimensions at the web site of one of the
major stepper makers - Pacific Scientific, Warner Electric, etc.
