And then there was the 2-litre Lotus engine that somehow made the
transition from Hillman Imp and Eclat/Elite to the Turbo Esprit....
Ran cams in Al. cam "towers" - more bearing surface than on the crank
journals, and oil pressure whose strength has been matched recently by
Nortel stock prices.... Of course, it had the wonderful BMC Maxi
gearbox to go with it... /mark

Don't tell the Japanese motorcycle manufacturers. They have been running
camshafts directly in alloy heads for years.
Aluminium can be used for bearings if you use the right grade and supply
plenty of lubrication.
