Thanks for the tips - I will be machining new bearing mounts all round and
will certainly be needing a quantity of new bolts. A few more to replace the
existing ones will not add much to the final bill.

Pulled the head off the Z axis this evening, and found a pocket full of
casting sand. Looking at the gears inside the head, I also spotted globs of
paint on one of the gears. Not sure if the painting was done after assembly,
but a further strip down is called for !
