I'm going to let my personal CAD bias show through and suggest that a
ground up CAD program ought to take a good look at the Cadkey interface.
CK has many detractors over support, bug fixes, etc, but the basic GUI
is good and pretty intuitive.
I'm not aware of any CK users ever switching to Acad of their own free
will, but have seen better than half a dozen Acad users switch to CK.
Since CK is all but abandoning the DOS world, there might even be some
possibility of licensing the DOS version for a port to Linux. I would
emphasis "some possibility"
