Power and analog take the lead this week, with innovations in

1.3 MHz switching power supply chips make Dr. Nasser Kutkut's product

that makes them a snap to use. He also notes that Microsemi's new
silicon carbide Schottky diode technology (SiC) extends the voltage
capability of Schottky diodes to hundreds of volts, opening up a wide
range of new applications for these ultra-fast devices.
Our ever-inquisitive analog editor Paul O'Shea's pick of the week is
Microtune's DOCSIS-compliant SiGe tuner, intended to replace traditional
"canned" tuner modules in advanced television applications such as cable
modems. Paul says that he's impressed at how this one-chip device delivers
controlled input impedance across the input band, low in-band emissions,
and good selectivity that are normally available only form bulkier,
more expensive tuner modules.
