I started down this track some years ago now and digital scales where either
not around or pricey so I replaced my normal mechanical pattern vernier with
a chinese digital one held in a bracket on the front edge of the tabel at the
head end with a stop fitted to the base of the machine. The vernier was
covered with some glass scounged out of the dealers scrap bin mounted in a
brazed up frame to stop either swarf or coolant getting at the works.
This man iancooper@... runs a firm in Birmingham, England not
Alabama! who imports them in the UK you must have someone like him in the
states surely. I am looking at a firm found in the group called SIKO who are
doing a sticky backed digital vernier tape, should get a leaflet in day or
so with all the bumf etc. At 68 I feel that mastering a whole new aspect of
life is rather time consuming as I want to get my hone out to users ASAP not
attempt to master Gcode and Gekko's.
Hope this helps at bit.
