Worm gear stepper ass'y question

Hello:
I bought a Japan Servo stepper on eBay that had approximately a NEMA 23
motor with worm gear and round assembly about 6" diameter with 1/2" shafts
(makes one think some serious torque is in order).
The seller claimed 100:1 worm gear. I don't know where he got that...I was
VERY courteous to Japan Servo, and despite their not surprising posture on
not disseminating info on designs that are proprietary to individual
customers, they did send me a datasheet on the basic motor with out the
gearbox. I haven't confirmed rotation ratio yet.
Apparently worm gears are not terribly efficient - 45-65% ?
The basic motor holding spec is 2.0 kgf-cm, which I convert to 27.8 oz-in,
not impressive. Does 100:1 worm gear at say 50% efficiency necesarily mean
100 x 0.5 x 27.8 = 1390 oz-in?
I know it's gonna be slower than molasses, which is fine.
