To expand on my earlier comments, You could hook a pair of reed relays
across the page up and page down key contacts (for Z axis jog up and down)
and have a comparator and a little logic control a Z axis plunge right now,
with no software changes at all. This would not stop at a particular depth,
though. The little logic is to provide about 1 second of having both keys
up, due to a funny problem in the xemc program. If you go rapidly from
page down to page up, EMC sees a key designated for continuous action
held down, and doesn't notice it is a different key, so it keeps going down!
