If your wanting to cut gears, I'd recommend getting a copy of Machinery's
Handbook. With the info you'll find it this book, all you'll need is a
calculator...you won't need a computer program at all. The book isn't cheap
but it has a wealth of engineering information in it...well beyond what you
need for gears.
