Terry,

I think that stripping the Yahoo ads makes sense, BUT I think that
stripping into the messages(and removing URL's) gets dicey, quickly.

An archive is by nature, a "snapshot" of a previous time. If you want
to take the url's and create a "living" document of useful links; go
ahead. But please do not REMOVE the links FROM the archived messages!

I like to have the url "in context", both as to who posted it, and
why, and when. This way I can make necessary determination(s) of its
usefulness to me. The long lists of url's available throughout the
net on many subjects are to me often a great waste of time, not
really much better than a web search.

I keep "paper" archives of many DIY type magazines, and although
I "could" strip out the ads to save space (and know some who do), I
prefer to keep the mags intact, and use the power of the computer to
do a better job of finding the item(s) I am remembering/looking for.
And the ads, even on old mags (and so out of date) have on more than
one occasion led to an "ah-ha!" as they are seen in the light of what
has happened since...

Hope this helps.

P.S. Nice to know you are still archiving our content! I asked awhile
back and received no answer... Yahoo appears to be making ever
stronger attempts to FORCE the clicking of online banner ads. Now
while reading posts online, every few messages there is an ad with
the message "Yahoo groups is an ad supported service." Then a "click
to continue on to message" box...
