Not sure waht you're loking for here. We discussed using encoders for
input in the smart box/dumb box thread quite awhile back; also in a
manual vs. cnc thread which preceded it... Check the group archive
online.
What I can make of your description seems pretty close to the FROG
single axis control offered for sherline and taig tools. Also, many
conmmercial cnc machines use the "jogwheel"(which is really an
encoder) to make manual moves; and some can "slave" additional axis
to make angles and curves "manually".
