I bought one of the mitsubishi VFDs on Ebay. I "bought it now" for
$150 and I think with the keypad it ended up being $225 shipped. I
don't have it wired up yet, but the guys in the lab next door to me
use them and bought one for $1200 at the same time I did (and mine
came first).

Apparently, they used to sell the keypad with, but realized that they
had fewer keypads than VFDs and since the VFDs are obsolete, they
didn't want to run out of keypads first, because then the value of
the VFDs goes down to very little. I also found it annoying that a
required piece (at least for me) was not in the purchase price, but
they do allow you to buy one after the auction.

You can buy cheaper ones on ebay if you are patient, but there is
more risk. I have a blown GE AF300 in the basement, for example.
