Keep in mind this version will only work with a rectangular
matrix of sampled values (ie a N x M matrix), but not an
arbitrary 'point cloud'.

However, a regular N x M matrix is what a digitizer should
be giving you as output anyway (the most common mode of usage
for us in machining).
