injet printer mechanism

What sort of resolution do the head mechanisms on injet printers have?
If the dot pitch is 1200 dpi, does that mean that the head moves in that
fine a step?

Mine (an Epson) has sproket drive. Can't see the drive sprocket, but if its
the same size as the other sprocket, about 0.4" diameter, circumference
1.2", to get 1200 dpi would need 1400 steps (half steps, microsteps,
whatever)/rev.
