1) My steppers are 1.8 degree/step, the sherline is 20 revolutions
per inch, and the gecko is a 10-microstep driver, so I compute
40,000 steps per inch. However, when I command the software to move

Hi Scott,

Could it be that you are using the 5410 mill which is (I think) 1mm
pitch, which will make it 25.4 tpi

If so, then

steps per inch = 25.4x200x10 = 50800spi

So 40000 steps will be 40000/50800 inch
ie. 0.787 inch which is almost what you got?
