[I can get you one of these at a discount, but you should realize that the
MaxNC CL system is based on stepper motors fitted with encoders, not "true"
servos, which are more like ordinary DC motors with encoder (and sometimes
tachometer) feedback. That said, it performs a lot better than their
open-loop system.
I don't know of any other company producing a closed-loop machine (of any
sort) for a price anywhere close to $4k. The Taig machines have a working
envelope that's about the same, but they use an open-loop bipolar chopper
drive to power their steppers (using phase pulses, not step/direction). Some
people have fitted these with servos and closed-loop control systems based
on the Gecko 320/340 series, but that currently takes some assembly work to
put together- nobody has come up with a bolt-on retrofit (yet).]
